“Sometimes we may not get credit for the ripple, but that ripple turns into a wave, and the wave a tsunami. The world changes because of us.”

Johson Elementary Community Mural

We completed this community mural at Johnson Elementary School in June 2023. We facilitated a mural design workshop with 15 6th graders where they brainstormed the concept of a jaguar-being with hawk wings coming out of a portal to bring light into a dark world. Kids love the idea of portals and being able to move between different worlds. Their fantastical imaginations match our surrealist vibe in perfect harmony.

As part of the project, we facilitated 18 art workshops with K-6 students and a community paint day for the Johnson community at large. There are roughly 200 individual pieces of artwork collaged into mural.

The mural is 4’ x 16’ and was painted with premium aerosol and acrylic paints, and UV protection on MDF panels.

Our residency at Johnson Elementary was sponsored by the Lamoille North Supervisory Union and funded in part by the Vermont Arts Council Animating Infrastructures Grant and private donations.
